Grade 7 RIFA Trip 2019

The highlight of their Junior School career is undoubtedly the Grade Sevens’ Rifa Conservation Trip. An educational camp nestled in the banks of the Zambezi River near Chirundu, Rifa offers a diversity of terrain and activities for the pupils to enjoy. From studying the ecology of the warm sulphur pools, canoeing the mighty Zambezi, marvelling at a vulture watch, learning about spoor and tracking, GPS reading and map work, knot making and target practice – the list is endless!

The children are put into 5 groups and enjoy 3 fun-filled rotational sessions a day – they are pleasantly exhausted around the campfire at night! Campfire songs, Bush Bingo, Wildlife Quiz and Team War Cries are evening activities that end off a wonderful day.

For some children, this may be their first experience of being in the bush, sleeping in a tent, fishing, witnessing a dissection, seeing lion or other wild game close up and being able to experience for themselves our wonderful wilderness. Suddenly Springvale House’s thrust for Wildlife Conservation all makes sense!

Thank you to all who made the trip possible, it was a most successful trip!

Mrs Liz Peebles
